Memo #1459: VPS Steel Security Door Types (Reminder)

VPS has three different types of doors: Code Doors, Key Doors, and Rear Doors. The following outlines the steps required to access (Unlock & Lock) all VPS steel security doors at a property. Properties secured with VPS steel should continue to be accessed when conducting interior inspections. Please review the access and locking directions outlined below.

Examples of Steel Securing

(1) D90 – Code Door

Ø Unlocking:

o Use the color code provided by MCS (5 color combination).

  • Ensure that the hand lever is all the way up in the locked position.

  • Enter the code (the code is provided in the MCS inspection order access notes).

  • You will hear a single loud beep and a click.

  • Once the code is entered you will have 5 seconds to move the slide handle down into the unlock position before the code is cancelled.

  • Locking:

  • Make sure the door frame is clear of mud, ice, or other debris on all sides.

  • Close the door panel firmly so that both the top and bottom of the right side are flush with the face of the door frame.

  • Lift the handle all the way up into the lock position.

(2) DM90 – Key Door

Ø Unlocking:

o A key is required to unlock this type of door.

§ The location of the key will be provided by MCS in the work order Access Notes.

  • Insert the key into the BOTTOM lock and rotate the key counter-clockwise.

  • Then, insert the key into the TOP lock and rotate the key counter-clockwise.

  • The door should be unlocked. Pull on the key before removing it from the top lock and the door should open.

  • Locking:

  • Make sure the door frame is clear of mud, ice, or other debris on all sides.

  • Be sure that the interior slide lock is pulled in the open position.

  • Close the door panel firmly so that both the top and bottom of the right side are flush with the face of the door frame.

  • From the Outside: Insert the key into the lock and rotate the key clockwise for both the TOP and the BOTTOM lock.

(3) DM90 – Rear Door

**Rear doors can only be unlocked from the interior.**

  • Shoot Bolts:

  • To Unlock: Pull the shoot bolts to the right and out of the notch in the door frame. There are 2 shoot bolts, one near the top and one near the bottom.

  • If the shoot bolts have pad locks then you will need to contact MCS for keys.

  • Mud, ice or other debris can cause the shoot bolts to jamb. Hitting the casing over the bolt can dislodge the debris.

  • Tension on the shoot bolts can be eased by pulling inward on the door panel while sliding the shoot bolts open.

  • To Lock: Slide both shoot bolts (top and bottom) into the notches on the door frame to lock the door.

  • Please make sure that the door frame is clear of mud, ice, or other debris on all sides.

  • Close the door panel firmly so that the left side is flush with the face of the door frame.

  • Red Handle:

  • To Unlock: Lift the red handle up to the unlock position.

  • A roller in the locking mechanism my not be properly aligned but lifting the handle with added force should overcome the tension on the roller.

  • To Lock: Lower the red handle completely down into the lock position.

  • Please make sure that the door frame is clear of mud, ice, or other debris on all sides.

  • Locate the 3 rollers on the door frame and make sure that they are not bent to either side.

  • Close the door panel firmly so that the left side is flush with the face of the door frame.

** If you experience any problems unlocking or locking the door, please call 877-855-4911 for further assistance. **
